Rare And Fine Napoleon III Neo-Grec French Mantel Clock, Circa 1855. A beautiful, fine and large antique French mantel clock comprising of ormolu bronze and sevres porcelain panels, dating to the 19th century, circa 1855. The clock features a beautifully chiselled bronze figure of Homer reclining over the drum case having finished writing the Odyssey on a scroll which lays next to him. On an arched plinth featuring a finely hand painted dial with a central painted scene including a classical musical instrument, laurel wreath and ribbons with the word'Homere' written on it alongside Roman numerals protected by a bevelled glass door. The dial flanked by another two hand painted sevres porcelain panels depicting cherubs.

The dial with Roman numerals and decorated with a beaded rim. The whole is decorated with garlands, rosettes and scrollwork.

Ancient Greek attributes are scattered including masks and a laurel wreath. This fine clock features an 8 day Japy Freres twin train movement regulated by a count wheel striking the hours and half on a bell. The pieces comes complete with pendulum, winding key and bell.

36 cm high x 40 cm wide. Overall, the clock is in good condition. The ormolu retains a good colour. The clock does show some signs of its age and usage.

Please note that the clock currently does not run. It will need a service and a new coil spring.
